Active Recovery Days: What to Do Between Workouts

Stretching & recovery · 2 min read

A recovery day is not a day off the plan. It is a lighter day that keeps the habit going while your muscles adapt to the work you did.

Why beginner plans include them

A 10-minute recovery routine

This is the routine from the recovery days of CaliStart 21. Do the list twice, slowly.

Kneeling Hip Flexor Stretch

  1. Kneel on one knee with the other foot flat in front of you.
  2. Tuck your tailbone and gently shift your hips forward.
  3. Hold, then switch sides.

Form cue: Stay tall; don’t arch your lower back.

What else counts

An easy 10 to 20 minute walk is a fine addition. What doesn’t belong on a recovery day is a second hard workout “to catch up”.
